The Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP), with its official website http://www.boip.int, is a regional intellectual property authority serving Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands. It evolved from the former Benelux Trademarks Office and Benelux Designs Office. In 2005, the three countries signed the Benelux Convention on Intellectual Property, which took effect on September 1, 2006, merging the two former bodies into the current BOIP. Its core responsibilities cover the unified registration, administration and protection of trademarks and industrial designs across the three Benelux states. A single application submitted to BOIP is valid in all three countries simultaneously, greatly streamlining regional IP protection procedures. BOIP enforces relevant conventions and regulations, promotes the improvement of regional IP legislation, and maintains close cooperation with WIPO, EUIPO and other international IP organizationsBenelux Office for Intellectual Property. It also provides auxiliary services such as i-DEPOT timestamp recording to help enterprises and creators safeguard their ideas and intellectual property. As one of Europe’s earliest regional unified IP systems, BOIP has long played a vital role in maintaining a sound intellectual property environment in the Benelux region.
