Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI), whose official website is [http://www.kipi.go.ke/](http://www.kipi.go.ke/), is a government parastatal under Kenya’s Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry. It evolved from the Kenya Industrial Property Office (KIPO) founded in February 1990, and was formally established on May 2, 2002 under the Industrial Property Act 2001.

KIPI administers industrial property rights including patents, trade marks, utility models and industrial designs. It examines IP applications, grants relevant rights, screens technology‑transfer agreements, and delivers public intellectual‑property information services. The institute organizes IP‑related training and outreach campaigns to foster inventiveness and innovation across Kenya. It maintains close cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for instance launching the Inventor Assistance Program in Kenya. KIPI partners with local universities and communities to transform Kenya into a knowledge‑based economy. It offers digital filing services via e‑Citizen to streamline application procedures for enterprises and individual inventors. By protecting innovation outputs, KIPI supports the country’s social‑economic and sustainable development goals。
