Montenegro’s competent authority for industrial property is the **Directorate for Internal Market and Competition** under the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism, with its official website at [http://www.mek.gov.me](http://www.mek.gov.me), located in Podgorica, the capital city. As the national authority, it administers the filing, examination and granting of industrial property rights including patents, trademarks, utility models and industrial designs. It maintains public industrial‑property registries and handles applications, modifications, renewals and oppositions of intellectual‑property rights. Montenegro has been a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since 2006 and acceded to more than 20 international IP treaties. The office implements domestic procedures for international registration systems such as PCT, Madrid System for trademarks and Hague System for industrial designs. It promotes alignment of national industrial‑property legislation with EU acquis, delivers public outreach and advisory services for domestic and foreign applicants. It also conducts international IP cooperation, participates in cross‑border IP affairs coordination, and undertakes supporting administrative work for intellectual‑property enforcement in Montenegro.
